MILES DAVIS - In A Silent Way | LP

The renowned Bootleg Series Miles Davis collection has spanned years from 1955 to 1985, but has yet to address 1963 and 1964 – a pivotal period in Miles' musical evolution and the promising beginnings of the Second Great Quintet – until now. Today, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings announce the new box set in the Miles Bootleg series, set to be released on November 8: Miles in France - Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8 which includes all the music recorded at the Antibes World Jazz Festival in 1963 (July 26-28) and the Paris Jazz Festival in 1964 (October 1). The 1963 recordings feature George Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, while the 1964 recordings mark the arrival of Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone as the last member of the Second Great Quintet. France was important to Miles, both professionally and personally, and quickly became his preferred territory. He played in France more often than in any other country outside the United States and recorded there frequently. His history in the country dates back to 1949 – when he performed at the International Jazz Festival at the age of 22 – and continued until July 1991, for a concert in Nice two months before his death. Miles In France will be released on November 8 as a 6-CD and 8-vinyl set, featuring over four hours of unreleased music and new liner notes by journalist Marcus J. Moore. A 2-vinyl box set, including the 1964 recordings, pressed on a blue-white-red vinyl inspired by the French flag, will also be available.
