"I've always had a very strong connection to Bach's music. When I was young, it was like 'musical nourishment' that enriched my practice," Swedish clarinetist Martin Fröst tells Apple Music Classical. "Instead of practicing studies, I played the solo violin sonatas and cello suites. It was a joy for me, as a student, to have found my place in this repertoire." Bach never wrote for the clarinet: invented during his lifetime, its use was still in its infancy. Yet, this modern instrument with its clear sounds, renowned for its emotional power and its cheerful, almost mischievous character, perfectly suits the music of the German Baroque composer. In B.A.C.H., Fröst reinterprets a wide selection of keyboard and organ compositions, liturgical arias, and movements from orchestral works, completely revisiting them with the help of his colleagues, through unprecedented and creative arrangements, as surprising as they are magnificent.
