Sony Classical is releasing Glenn Gould “The Goldberg Variations - The Complete Unreleased 1981 Studio Sessions” to commemorate the icon’s 90th birthday and the 40th anniversary of his legendary re-recording of Bach's keyboard masterpiece. Spread across 11 CDs, the box set includes the final, two-time Grammy Award-winning version, as well as everything recorded during the 1981 sessions, restored from the original ¼-inch analog tapes and mastered using 24-bit/96 kHz technology. In addition to the takes themselves, the session recordings include conversations between Gould and the producers, all of which are transcribed in a 216-page hardcover book containing an annotated score, comprehensive documentation and facsimiles, as well as insightful articles on the recording process, including recollections from Richard Einhorn, one of the producers who worked with Gould on the recording.
