Accompanied by songwriter and producer Jesse Harris (Norah Jones, Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux…), the young woman seems to have already lived several lives to imbue her music with so many nuances and colors, perfectly blended into a truly personal vocal timbre and songs of already superior quality. When Jesse Harris suggested producing her album, she saw it as an invitation to "bring together everything I am," she says – her love for Billie Holiday and Billie Eilish, her friendships with Sudanese flutist Ghandi Adam and Guinean guitarist Abdoulaye Kouyaté, her admiration for the immense crooner Henri Salvador, and her travel memories from Africa. Constantly evolving, Gabi offers songs in English, such as her second single Buzzing Bee, I'll Tell You Something, and Baby, in Portuguese (Coração Transparente), and of course in French with the magnificent Une errante sur la terre, l’amour incompris, and the first single Mille Rivages, resulting in a most remarkable and striking outcome that highlights her unique talent and voice. It must be said that the singer and guitarist has given herself the means to embrace music in a way that is uniquely her own, bestowing the beauties of the world that she perceives with her emotions as her only compass. Brazil, South Africa, Guinea, Portugal, United States, Paris where she grew up, London where she pursued ethnomusicology studies: her travels and encounters have given her art a kind of obviousness. An obviousness mixed with curiosity, translated into three languages – French, English, Portuguese – which she chose to fully express herself, in a sincere and troubling surrender, through which jazz, blues, bossa, soul, and chanson are embodied in her intensely lived experience. She sings what inspires her in several languages, defying categorization. She has successfully established her unique style, as well as her ambiguous emotion: a voice with a warm and clear timbre, at once gentle, melancholic, and soothing. Her eponymous debut album, released in 2023, has been streamed over twenty million times and sold more than 15,000 copies (the best-selling Jazz/World album in France that year), earning her the Gold Disk Award for Best International New Artist in Japan, as well as significant acclaim in the French and international press, and selling out multiple dates (at Francofolies de la Rochelle, La Seine Musicale, and La Cigale). Today, Gabi returns with her second album titled La femme aux yeux de sel (The Woman with Salt Eyes). This album opens with a lullaby that tells the story of a woman named Salinda, an inhabitant of a dream island, whose salt eyes melt with every tear shed. To heal her eyes, she embarks on a journey in search of the secrets of salt. Could the album be a small mirror of this tale? Gabi discovers and grows through the songs, learning to know herself by questioning both the world around her and her inner world, as well as her life experiences as a woman. Above all, she tells her emotions: the joy of her travels and the difficulty of opening up to others, the melancholy that stalks her, the anger at a sick world, suffering, anxiety, and then the wonder of nature that heals her. She draws inspiration from female artists: Salinda is inspired by the Rumba des îles from Marguerite Duras' film India Song (composed and arranged with Oan Kim). She pays tribute to Latin American music, particularly to female voices such as Mercedes Sosa, but also to the South African singer Miriam Makeba, who has inspired her for years. Finally, this album is the result of beautiful collaborations, both old (Oan Kim and Jesse Harris) and new: Syrian flutist Naïssam Jalal can be heard on the track Le lever de Soleil (Sunrise), questioning the state of the world. This track, like Love High and Ton monde secret (Your Secret World), was composed and produced with saxophonist and composer Laurent Bardainne (who has collaborated with Camélia Jordana, Jeanne Added, and November Ultra). We can also recognize the creation of Baptiste Trotignon, with whom she composed the track Mélancolie, magnified by the emotion and elegance of the string arrangements by Brazilian composer Maycon Ananias. With her latent melancholy and her universe rich in colors and rhythms, Gabi gradually blurs the boundaries between eras and styles to create a dreamlike world of her own. This is the secret of this personal, multifaceted, demanding, and accessible album.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0917/0357/4862/files/GABI_HARTMANN_La_femme_aux_yeux_de_sel_0198028724029_13792593-bcf4-4f12-a0b2-ec96f621c9a5.jpg?v=1752056186
gabi-hartmann-little-song-lines-lp
GABI HARTMANN - Little Song Lines | LP

After the great success of her eponymous debut album, an international tour (New York, Berlin, London, Istanbul, Tokyo,...) and several sold-out dates at La Seine Musicale, Les Francos de La Rochelle and La Cigale, and before a major show at the Olympia, France's #1 Jazz artist unveils a brand new acoustic guitar/vocal EP with folk accents... Gabi Hartmann's new EP "Little Songlines" is conceived as an interlude, a breath, between her first album and her second, currently in preparation. Composed of live-recorded acoustic tracks, Gabi sings while accompanying herself on guitar, without any click track and very few arrangements. In the tradition of folk singer-songwriters, in an intimate atmosphere, the recording captures the essence of the songs, their stories, in their purest and rawest forms. The title, Little Songlines, is inspired by the songlines of Australian Aborigines, a veritable system, a vast labyrinth of invisible paths like a desert map, where songs act as guardians of the spiritual world of the ancestors. What if songs were, for artists, powerful vectors of memories, allowing them to connect with strong emotions to find answers to their deepest questions? From this secret and sad place, Gabi Hartmann shares a more intimate part of herself, presenting not only new versions of tracks from her previous album, but also drawing inspiration from a cover by Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lhasa de Sela (who has a great influence on Gabi's work and is also a prominent female role model). The EP also features a new song, 'Nowhere To Hide', the French song 'L'amour incompris' and a protest track 'Azza Fi Awak', magnified by flautist Ghandi Adam. Not to mention the bonus track, the magnificent duet between Gabi and Moh Kouyaté 'Tanoun'...Again and again, Gabi continues to celebrate the blending of cultures.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0917/0357/4862/files/68_0198028008617_4528bf84-aea2-43e5-9b9f-4f05f0873edf.jpg?v=1752056189
